The process of dry ice blasting promotes a partial contact break between the target surface and contaminate due to the created temperature differential. The average temperature of dry ice pellets is colder than -130ºF. When applied to the surface, the pointed cold shock causes the contaminate to fracture. (While some surfaces may be sensitive to thermal changes, under normal conditions, the blast surface will only vary by 10º)

As the CO2 molecules enter the fractures, they expand over 500 times as they convert from a solid to a gas. This process rapidly breaks the contaminate down, causing separation from the surface into loose particles. The removed material generally becomes a light dry residue that can be easily vacuumed by our HEPA vacuum filters while the job is in process. Since the CO2 sublimates harmlessly back into the air upon impact, there is no secondary waste disposal.
